FILM & PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

BY THE ACTORS AWARDS

75

DIRECTOR: JOE ZAPPA

A crash victim, a housewife and two repressed teens are connected by hard-working therapist Viola, who helps them battle their addictions while two disillusioned detectives struggle with the mounting war against heroin in Cincinnati.

75 is an important movie that, tragic though it is, shows a persistent trust in individuals over organizations, and a cautious recognition of our potential to slowly rise above complacency and apathy.

The film was recently screened at Cannes Film Festival, and has already won multiple awards worldwide, including Best Picture & Best Director at LAFA (Los Angeles Film Awards), Best Narrative Feature at Festigious, Best Drama at New York Film Awards and recently, four major awards at the Actors Awards: Best Performance of Fest (Tifani Ahren Davis), Best Supporting Actress (Shannon Faith), Best Young Actress (Lizzy Walther) and Best Ensemble.

So what made us love this movie and its performances so much? 75 was made by a fantastic group of passionate actors who are here to tell an important story, hoping to make a change. It’s easy to tell that everyone in the cast gave their heart and soul into this project, and they all did an excellent job. Natural performances all around, with zero ego and pure dedication to the film’s mission. We adore these guys!

Tifani Ahren Davis as Leslie

Tifani Ahren Davis plays Leslie, a housewife who is addicted to heroin. Tifani is a gift to this important film. Her character is believable and natural throughout. She wears masks in front of her family, but not in front of the camera. And the result is a vulnerable character who despite her awful life, tries to find moments of happiness and wants to live. We could feel her inner conflicts and pain every moment, and this to me, signifies an excellent performance.

Shannon Faith as Viola

Shannon Faith plays Dr. Viola Harris, a hard-working therapist who helps drug addicts battle their addictions. Shannon is the perfect typecast for this role- a motivated, professional and compassionate human being, who believes she can change the lives of addicts in Cincinnati. One tragedy after another make us lose hope, but she never does. A heartfelt performance by a talented actress.

Lizzy Walther as Summer
